Mancienne to extend Wolves stay

Michael Mancienne

Wolves have extended the loan of Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne until 29 January and will try to keep him for the rest of the season.

Mancienne, 20, arrived at Molineux in October and his current deal was due to expire on 29 December.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy told the club website: "Michael has been a very good player for us and we are delighted to extend his loan.

"We'll wait and see what Chelsea decide in the window."

Mancienne has made a significant impact in his time at Molineux and will stay with the club for the full 93 days permitted under the emergency loan system.

"I don't have to make a decision. I want to keep him but it will be up to Chelsea as he's their player"

But McCarthy is hoping a longer arrangement can be made with Chelsea.

"If they feel they can leave him out and we can have him for the rest of the season then that's what we'll do because that can happen at any time in January.

"I don't have to make a decision. I want to keep him but it will be up to Chelsea as he's their player."

Wolves have won six of the eight games Mancienne has played in and are currently seven points clear at the top of the Championship.

Mancienne was called up to Fabio Capello's England squad last month for the friendly against Germany in Berlin but did not feature in the match.
