Iwelumo completes Wolves switch

Chris Iwelumo

Chris Iwelumo is "buzzing" at the prospect of playing for Wolves following his move from Charlton.

The 29-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal at Molineux and cannot wait for the new season to start.

"It's been in the background for the last couple of weeks and I'm delighted I'm here now," Iwelumo told BBC WM.

"There's a great team spirit here and that is important as it will make the long season a little bit easier. I'm buzzing," he added.

The former Colchester forward was an ever-present for the Addicks last season, scoring 10 goals for the South London club.

His spell at Colchester was prolific, notching 35 goals in two seasons in partnership with Jamie Cureton.

Iwelumo adds to Mick McCarthy's other summer signings Richard Stearman, David Jones and Sam Vokes, and the Wolves boss is thrilled to have added Iwelumo to the ranks.

"I'm delighted. He adds a physical presence and he's scored goals," McCarthy told BBC WM.

"His experience will help. He's a good character and while it's nice to have youth and desire it's important to have that experience."

McCarthy now has plenty of competition for places in the Wolves forward line, with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Andy Keogh ready to battle with Iwelumo, Vokes and transfer-listed Stephen Elliott.

The Wolves manager is also again being linked with Hearts centre back Christophe Berra.
