Sir Elton John could return to Watford, two months after giving up his title of honorary life president in protest at the way the club was being run.
The singer, who has had two spells as Watford chairman, has met with players and staff after regular discussions with manager Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers told BBC Three Counties Radio: "We have spoken a lot in the last couple of weeks.
"He is one of the iconic figures associated with Watford Football Club."
John was critical of the regime of former chairman Graham Simpson and chief executive Mark Ashton, who have now both left the club.
"There have been some big personalities involved with Watford's history and it's important they are involved in Watford's future to progress the club"John is a life-long fan of the Hornets and first took over as chairman in 1976 when the club was in the then Fourth Division.
During his time in charge they were twice promoted to the top flight and reached the FA Cup final.
Rodgers added: "People like Elton John have been involved here for many years. For me, it is important that people like that have a part in the future as well.
"I was delighted when he accepted my invitation to come to the training ground, and he was great with the players and the staff.

It remains to be seen what role, if any, John takes on. Interim chairman Andrew Wilson is putting together a new-look board, and the Hornets are anxious to avoid selling leading scorer Tommy Smith in the transfer window.
