Barnes relishing Liverpool test

John Barnes

Tranmere Rovers will face a Liverpool XI in a pre-season friendly at Prenton Park on 24 July.

Former Reds winger and recently appointed Rovers manager John Barnes said: "This will be a great chance for my squad to show what they can do.

"Hopefully both sets of fans will enjoy the game. I look forward to welcoming my old club to Prenton Park ahead of the new season."

The two sides faced each other last summer, with Liverpool winning 1-0.
