Redknapp adds Sherwood to staff

Tim Sherwood

Former Tottenham midfielder Tim Sherwood has joined Harry Redknapp's coaching staff at White Hart Lane.

Redknapp, who left Portsmouth for Spurs earlier this month, had already brought in Kevin Bond as one of his assistants.

Sherwood, 39, confirmed that he had held talks with Redknapp on Friday and will work part-time at the club.

"I will be here in some capacity," he said. "I'm pleased to have the opportunity to be involved at a great football club."

Sherwood spent nearly four years at White Hart Lane, making over 100 appearances for the club before being signed by Redknapp at Pompey.

Now retired, he is working as a football pundit and is involved with a magazine alongside Redknapp's son Jamie.

"I'm not sure how I'm going to be involved. It's only going to be part-time because the club won't be in my mind 100% of the time," added Sherwood.

"If someone would have asked me where I wanted to get back into football then I would have said Tottenham Hotspur.

Is Redknapp right to appoint Sherwood?

"Spurs should not be at the bottom of the table."

As well as Sherwood, Redknapp also said he is keen to add another ex-Tottenham player to his backroom team.

"It's about time we got the younger guys involved. People like him (Sherwood) and Les Ferdinand have a lot to offer.

"Tim's got a terrific football brain. I'd like to tap in to that and get him on the coaching ladder and see if he likes it. Les, what a great fellow to have around. We've got to have English coaches coming in coaching at the top of the Premier League."

Juande Ramos was sacked as Spurs manager late on Saturday, with Redknapp officially confirmed as his successor last Sunday - just hours before their 2-0 victory over Bolton.

Redknapp also said the club's development coach Clive Allen would definitely have a role to play in his new coaching set-up.

Bond worked as assistant to Redknapp at West Ham, Portsmouth and Southampton, and had been manager at League Two side Bournemouth before being sacked in September.
