Britton tips rivals for play-offs

Leon Britton

Swansea midfielder Leon Britton thinks the Swans and arch-rivals Cardiff can reach the play-offs this season after Sunday's exhilarating 2-2 derby draw.

Cardiff sit seventh, with the Swans one place below them in the Championship.

Britton, who was sent off on Sunday, told BBC Sport: "Cardiff have got good players, they'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

"I think we can do that as well. Fingers crossed, if we keep up our high standards, we can be there."

"The game had everything [you could want] in a derby match, sendings-off, four goals, a penalty. What else can you ask for?"

The 26-year-old, who was shown a second yellow card for a two-footed challenge on Kevin McNaughton in injury-time, thought the decision was harsh.

"I think I got the ball but the referee said I went in two-footed. Things happen so quickly on the pitch, I'll have to look at the replay but I think I got the ball.

"But the referee made a decision and you have to respect it."

And Britton admitted his delight at the return of the derby, which had been absent from the calendar for nine years.

The former West Ham youngster also played in the Swans' 1-0 League Cup win over the Bluebirds earlier this season.

"Have your say on Sunday's derby"

"I've heard so much about them since I've been here and the two games we have played against them this season have been unbelievable, with great atmospheres.

"This game had everything [you could want] in a derby match, sendings-off, four goals, a penalty. What else can you ask for?

"Personally we could have asked for a win, but the fans have watched a good game of football."

Britton will miss Saturday's game against Bristol City as a result of his dismissal.

Team-mate Darren Pratley will sit out the following game with Barnsley after picking up his fifth booking of the season.
