Captain Garry Monk admits the Swansea City players have not been allowed to forget the importance of beating arch-rivals Cardiff in the Carling Cup.
The two sides come together at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday for the first fully-fledged Welsh derby in nine years.
"People won't let us forget what this means to the club," said Monk.
"It's important for the fans and the city as a whole but it's us who need to make sure we get the right result.
He added: "I've been here four years and even the new lads are realising how big it is.
"Whether we are out shopping or having lunch, that's all the fans want to talk about."
Monk admits it has been difficult to keep focusing on the other games building up to Tuesday night and is glad they are out of the way.
"I hope it will be a really open game," he said.
"They've started really well and they haven't lost, but we've also started well.
"Hopefully the form book will go out of the window."
Swansea boss Roberto Martinez has made changes in personnel for the two previous rounds of the cup.
But he is not concerned about facing the wrath of the fans if he fields a weakened side that goes on to lose the game.
"I expect whichever side I put out will win the football game," said Martinez.
"You can win or lose game in many different ways, but I am looking at the performance."
He is also hoping the Swansea supporters can help spur them on to victory.
"Whatever is around you can affect the game beforehand and I think it can affect the players from being themselves," he said.
"Sometimes these derbies don't show the quality of the game the two squads are capable of.
"But once the game starts, (the crowd) can affect you in a good way and that's important.
"We need to make sure it's a night to remember and you can only do that with a good performance and the right result," he added.
