Painter latest Swan to sign deal

Marcos Painter

Swansea City defender Marcos Painter is the latest player to commit his future to the club by signing a new contract.

The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a long-term performance-related deal which stretches beyond 2010.

"I'm happy at the club, I'm enjoying my football and I feel that it's an exciting time to be a part of Swansea City," said Painter.

Angel Rangel, Darren Pratley and Jason Scotland have all recently agreed long-term deals at the Liberty Stadium.

Painter came through Birmingham City's academy and joined the Swans on a three-month loan deal in November 2006.

"We're delighted to see Marcos in a white shirt for the long term"

He then completed a £50,000 permanent switch just two months later and played his part in last season's promotion from League One.

"We're moving in the right direction and hopefully we can build on the fantastic start we have made to the season, starting by putting in a good performance at Crystal Palace on Saturday," said Painter.

And boss Roberto Martinez was delighted that the full-back has committed his future to the club.

"Marcos has developed massively over the past 16 months and at his age it's great news that he wants to carry on progressing as a player and committing himself to this football club," said Martinez.

"He has a reliable personality in the dressing room and as a player we all saw his contribution as the club won the title last campaign.

"We all feel that he'll carry on fulfilling his potential with Swansea City and we're delighted to see Marcos in a white shirt for the long term."
