Richardson up for Wear-Tyne derby
Sunderland midfielder Kieran Richardson has admitted his relief at avoiding suspension ahead of Saturday's Wear-Tyne derby with Newcastle United.
Richardson, 24 on Tuesday, was on four bookings going into the 0-0 draw with Fulham but avoided a fifth to remain available for the Newcastle game.
He told BBC Radio Newcastle: "I just get on with my football and if you get booked, you get booked.
"But obviously we've got a big game next week and I can be part of it."
Richardson has re-established himself at the heart of the Sunderland midfield after enduring an injury-plagued 2007/08 season.
But the former Manchester United winger confessed he does not dwell on those dark days and remains positive of success under manager Roy Keane.
"The injuries are in the past it's a new season, I want to get back to playing good football with my club and make progress from there," said Richardson.
"New faces came in during the summer, the squad is strong and there's a good camaraderie around the place.
"The gaffer has bought quality in and you can see it on the field."
Sunderland are 12th in the Premier League, with nine points from eight matches.
