Gannon asks for seven substitutes

Jim Gannon

Stockport County boss Jim Gannon has called for seven substitutes in all competitions after Stockport's 5-0 midweek FA Cup hammering of Yeovil.

The County boss made three changes during Tuesday night's first round replay at Edgeley Park as County set up a second round tie at Gillingham.

But Gannon told BBC Manchester: "It would be brilliant to have seven subs.

"You could include a lot of young players. Then, at the right time, you could give them their opportunity."

After leading 3-0 at the break, Stockport killed the game when they scored their fourth goal just three minutes into the second half.

Gannon then made three separate substitutions over the next half hour. And he would have liked the chance to do more.

But he was still pleased to give midfielder Greg Tansey his first outing of the season over the final half hour and to offer another chance to James Vincent, who responded by rounding off the scoring in the final minute.

"Perhaps if it was a league game, we might have had a different mentality thinking about goal difference," he said.

"But it was great experience for everybody.

"We got a great result and two young players have got their first, extra opportunity of the season because they have worked so hard in training to get that opportunity and deserved it."
