Binos pay £48,000 income tax bill

Stirling Albion chairman Peter McKenzie

Stirling Albion have made a £48,000 payment to HM Revenue and Customs to avert court action that could have shut the club down.

The club had been threatened with closure previously after failing to pay an overdue tax bill.

In May, the club's owner Peter McKenzie made a £41,000 payment to save the club from liquidation.

The Binos are currently top of the Second Division, but manager Alan Moore has been linked with a move to Morton.

Stirling Albion fans launched a campaign earlier this year to raise the £800,000 required to purchase the club from McKenzie.

The campaign asked fans to purchase a £40 stake in the Stirling Albion Supporters Trust, which would then become the club's sole shareholder.

On 29 October, the club was given eight days to settle a second outstanding tax debt or the face being wound up.
