Dargo aims for stadium send-off

St Mirren striker Craig Dargo says victory over Motherwell on Saturday would be the perfect way to mark the end of the club's stay in Love Street.

Saints move to their new 8,029-capacity ground in Greenhill Road after the SPL game against Well on 3 January.

And Dargo said: "We've won a few games, so we have a wee spring in our step.

"It's going to be the big fixture, it's sold out as we say farewell to Love Street and what a way it would be to end things here with another victory."

Gus MacPherson's side have secured four consecutive league wins to lift them to eighth in the table and Dargo said the players were determined to leave the present St Mirren Park on a winning note.

The new St Mirren Park is situated less than a mile from the current ground.

Chairman Stewart Gilmour claimed the move, which has wiped out the club's debt, would help the Buddies realise their potential.

Tesco has planning permission to build a supermarket at Love Street, but it has applied to Renfrewshire Council to build a store at nearby Wallneuk and create a housing development at St Mirren's current home.
