Federici keen to stay at Southend

Adam Federici

Southend United's on-loan goalkeeper Adam Federici has said he is happy to stay at Roots Hall.

The 23-year-old has played nine games for the Blues since joining from Reading in September.

He told BBC Essex: "The three [goalkeepers] behind me are all really good who work really hard in training to get in that first spot.

"So it will be a difficult decision for the manager if they want to keep me on, or whatever they want to do."

The Australian's current loan deal comes to an end after Southend's home game with Oldham this weekend.

As well as Federici, the Essex club have Steve Mildenhall, Ian Joyce and Clark Masters vying for the number one jersey.

"They've obviously been watching and said I'd done reasonably well"
Adam Federici on his Australia call-up

Federici is now on international duty for the Socceroos with his call-up having resulted, he believes, from his move to Southend.

"The manager rang me and said they'd been waiting for me to start playing on a regular basis," he explained.

"They've obviously been watching and said I'd done reasonably well and that's why I've been called up.

"It's a good feeling that people are watching and it makes it all worthwhile."
