Scannell eyes opening day start
Southend United midfielder Damien Scannell has said he hopes to play in their opening match of the season.
The 23-year-old, who has yet to start a game for the Blues, has been struggling with a groin strain but he said he is pushing hard for a game.
Scannell told BBC Essex: "I feel I've proved a point that I can hold down a place in the side and I will show more.
"It's a small squad but you've still got to keep your place, so I've got to prove myself."
