No timescale to buy Owls - Sheard

Sheffield Wednesday

Prospective new Sheffield Wednesday owner Geoff Sheard has refused to put a timescale on his plans to take control of the club.

But the Lancashire businessman told BBC Radio Sheffield that he is confident of concluding the deal to buy the Owls.

"There's not an issue with proof of funding. It's all being done through the UK legal system," he said.

"I don't want to put timescales on anything. I've done that before and tripped over."

Last month Sheard claimed he was "days away" from buying the controlling shares of Geoff Hulley, Dave Allen, Keith Addy and fans group Wednesdayite.

Sheard has been in contact with all the relevant parties this week and said: "We're in a position whereby we can conclude our business."

Sheard has also denied reports that he had decided to invest in the proposed Major League Soccer franchise St Louis rather than the Owls.

"I was approached by Jeff Cooper, who is fronting the bid to have St Louis win one of the franchise slots, and I did have a lunch meeting with him three weeks ago," he said.

"That's as far as it's gone and nothing will progress with that until we're finished with Sheffield Wednesday."
