Tony McMahon

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Middlesbrough defender Tony McMahon on a month-long loan.

The 22-year-old, who has played 17 Premier League games for Boro and had a loan spell at Blackpool last season, will play against Preston on Saturday.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I am delighted to be here. I need games and this is a great place to get them."

Owls boss Brian Laws said: "I was a right-back myself and believe me this lad has a lot to offer us."

He added: "We have been watching him for a while."

Former England Under-19 player McMahon signed a new one-year deal with the Teessiders earlier this summer.
