Shearer 'unaware' of Owls rumours

Shearer won the league title with Blackburn in 1995

Former England captain Alan Shearer insists there is no truth to rumours linking him with the proposed takeover at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Newcastle legend told BBC Sport he is "unaware of the interest" from the consortium led by Lancashire-based businessman Geoff Sheard.

Reports suggested Sheard would like to appoint Shearer as manager if he took control at Hillsborough.

Sheard is trying to buy the shares of former chairman Dave Allen.

Allen has agreed "in principle to sell" his stake of nearly 11% to Sheard.
