Scunthorpe United are on the verge of signing York City striker Adam Boyes.
Iron manager Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside they are in talks to bring Boyes, 18, to Glanford Park.
"I've spoken to Adam and he's a young player who's probably not ready yet but we want to bring in and develop over the next 2 or 3 years.
"We've looked at him, we like him and I've watched him myself a couple of times last season and is hopefully one we can develop for the future."
Boyes was a first-team regular last season and was in the starting eleven for the Minstermen when they lost the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in May. He also had a trial spell with Manchester United in 2008.
However, Adkins admits a deal has not been done just yet.
"I think both chairmen have been happy with the way things have gone but he's got an agent and we've got to sit down and negotiate a deal with the player."
