Ipswich Town midfielder Liam Trotter is set to reject a new deal with the club in order to join Scunthorpe United, BBC Radio Humberside reports.
The 20-year-old has been offered a new contract by Ipswich boss Roy Keane but there are suggestions he is unhappy with the terms of the offer.
If the youngster were to leave Portman Road to join another club a fee would be required - possibly set at tribunal.
Trotter made 13 appearances for the Iron during a loan spell last season.
Keane told the club website he hopes Trotter's future will be resolved soon.
He said: "It's that time at the moment when you have people away on holiday and we've also been involved in things like redeveloping the training ground but I expect it to be sorted out one way or another next week."
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Ipswich midfielder Ed Upson has signed a new one-year deal.
