Holmes welcomes new Whites talks

Salisbury manager Nick Holmes says news the club are in talks with a potential new owner is 'a breath of fresh air'.

Holmes believes the would-be investor has the right ideas and potential to move the Whites on.

"I feel there may be something that will come of it. We've had two or three false dawns. All we want to do is play football," he told BBC Wiltshire.

Holmes is also certain they will be able to start the new season regardless of what happens with any takeover.

"We will start the season, I'm absolutely certain of that," he said. "If this club was on death's door there would people out there who would come and save it.

"We will play at Rushden on 8 August."

Salisbury were put up for sale by departing chairman Neville Beal in April for £1 and, despite several initial interested parties, no deal was ever completed.

Earlier this week captain Mike Fowler left after the Blue Square Premier club failed to pay his latest wages. Holmes is keen to tie up a takeover before he loses any more of his players.

"It's frustrating for the boys," added Holmes. "It's the same in any walk of life if you don't pick up your money when you're expected to.

"It isn't the easiest of situations but we get on with it.

"We just hope that within a few weeks everything gets sorted out. It's certainly somebody (potential new owner) with good ideas and with the potential to move the club over or on into the future."

Meanwhile, Salisbury beat Bournemouth 3-1 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium in their latest friendly. Rob Sinclair, Robbie Matthews and trialist Chris Flood were all on target.
