Douglas hopes for 'common sense'

Rotherham United chief executive Paul Douglas has said he hopes "common sense would prevail" with the Football League over their financial demands.

The League want the Millers to pay a £750,000 bond and repay money to the Football Stadia Improvement Fund.

Douglas has told BBC Radio Sheffield they want to reach an agreement before the start of the season.

And he said he hopes the League have "an understanding of the modern day difficulties of running a club".

A Football League statement issued last week stated that Rotherham would need to forfeit a bond of £750,000 to the Football League if they do not move back to the town of Rotherham in the next four years.

The League also want the club to start a repayment plan to the Football Stadia Improvement Fund for improvements made to their former Millmoor ground.

But Douglas said he hopes they appreciate the position of the Millers new Chairman Tony Stewart.

"Here's a guy who has come in and been prepared to spend a lot of his own money ensuring that professional football stays in Rotherham."
