Boss Campbell exits Ross County

Dick Campbell Dick Campbell has left Ross County after less than five months as manager - despite having taken his side to the top of Division Two.

BBC Scotland understands that the relationship between Campbell and director of football George Adams had deteriorated over the past few weeks.

And the shock news came in a statement following a Tuesday board meeting.

"It was mutually agreed that his contract be terminated with immediate effect," it stated.

"We would like to thank Dick for his time and effort at the club and wish him every success in the future."

Campbell, sacked by Partick Thistle last season, took charge in May following County's relegation from the First Division.

He succeeded Scott Leitch, who left to become assistant manager at Motherwell.

Campbell was chosen because of his record of winning promotion from Division Two.

And County are unbeaten in their last five league games and, despite being held to a draw at home to Alloa Athletic on Saturday, lead on goal difference from Raith Rovers.

But it appears that the working relationship with Adams played a major part in Campbell leaving the club.

Following talks between Campbell and chairman Roy MacGregor, the club was left seeking a new manager.
