Blackburn keeper joins Rochdale

Frank Fielding

Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Frank Fielding has joined League Two side Rochdale on a one-month loan deal.

Fielding, 20, has yet to play a first-team game for the Premier League side but has had loan spells with Wycombe and Northampton Town.

Rochdale manager Keith Hill told the club's website: "We have been tracking him for two years.

"Once we knew he was back from Northampton and available we moved to recruit him."

Fielding will vie with Sam Russell for a place in the starting XI at Spotland and Hill said it is good for him to have to make difficult selection decisions.

"With James Spencer we have three keepers but every Premier League club has at least three and we consider ourselves to be a Premier League club in the making," said Hill.

"It is about competition for places, we are not keeping clean sheets and we want to rectify that," he added.

Fielding said he is looking forward to his time at Spotland and that his experience of playing in League Two will stand him in good stead.

"It is brilliant to come here," said Fielding. "I am really looking forward to being involved in some competitive games.

"I had a good spell at Wycombe and we got into the play-offs during my time there.

"Hopefully the move will be beneficial to both myself and Rochdale," he added.
