Birmingham still keen to net Boyd

Rangers striker Kris Boyd's move to Birmingham City could be back on just days after the deal was reported to be 'dead' because of his wage demands.

Boyd's agent Mark Donaghy had told BBC Scotland that no negotiations were currently taking place.

But Blues number two Roy Aitken told BBC WM: "I don't think in a sense that it has ever been 100% off.

"The manager's always been looking to strengthen. And, as far as Kris is concerned, he's still on the radar."

Blues boss Alex McLeish said on Friday that the ball was in 25-year-old Boyd's court, and Aitken suggested that nothing had changed in that respect.

"The manager has made it very clear where he stands on that," said Aitken. "But who's to say it can't happen?

"It's a good deal more than he's paid at Rangers, with big benefits too if we're promoted"

"The player has some made some statements, as his agent. But there's a little bit of talking to be done yet."

The Blues, chasing promotion back to the Premier League, agreed a fee last week with Rangers for the 15-times capped Scotland striker, who made big headlines in October when he said he would not play again for his country under the current manager George Burley.

But the deal floundered despite City claiming that the Scottish Premier League's 18-goal top-scorer would have been in line for a sizable increase in salary.

Blues managing director Karren Brady said: "There's not another club in the Championship, even some in the Premier League, who could offer what we have.

"It's a good deal more than he's paid at Rangers, with big benefits too if we're promoted."
