Rangers have completed the signing of Osasuna defender Carlos Cuellar for a fee of £2.37m.
The Spanish centre-back agreed personal terms on a four-year contract after passing a medical at Ibrox.
"The main thing that attracted me to sign was the size of the club," said the 25-year-old Cuellar.
"But the possibility of playing in the Champions League is also a big bonus. It wasn't the main reason for coming, but it was a big plus."
A second-place finish in the Scottish Premier League last season means Rangers enter the Champions League at the second qualifying round, facing either FK Zeta or FBK Kaunas.
But, despite Rangers going two seasons without winning the league title, Cuellar hopes that winning silverware will justify his decision to turn his back on one of the best leagues in the world.
"I'm coming to a great club who is going to be fighting for the title and the two cups every year," he said.
"I have the chance to play in Europe as a serious contender"
"When you go to a big club, you have pressure every year.
"It doesn't matter what happened before, but obviously two years in a row without winning the league is not good for a club like Rangers.
"I have hope that I can help to win the league." Cuellar helped take Osasuna to the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup last season, beating Rangers on the way.
"I have the chance to play in Europe as a serious contender," he said.
"I know that the Scottish game is very physical and with plenty of pace and speed.
"I have always liked this style of football."
Osasuna had initally demanded £4m for Cuellar and Rangers manager Walter Smith is convinced he will prove good value for money.
And he believes that Cuellar's background - he started his career with CD Calahorra, a semi-professional club, before moving to Numancia and then Osasuna - gives him a different perspective on life in full-time football.
"He's not one who's got a background typical of a lot of players," Smith told Rangers' website.
"He's worked his way up from the lower divisions up to the premier division in Spain and he's had to work hard for what he's got.
"That shows in his play. He doesn't like losing."
Cuellar becomes the sixth permanent signing of the summer for Rangers.
Alan Gow, Kirk Broadfoot, Jean-Claude Darcheville, DaMarcus Beasley and Graeme Smith have been recruited, while Andy Webster has agreed a new loan deal.
Smith hopes to complete his spending - Steven Naismith and Lee McCulloch remain targets - before Rangers enter Champions League qualifying on 31 July.
