Rangers clinch Beasley transfer

DaMarcus Beasley Rangers have completed the signing of DaMarcus Beasley form PSV Eindhoven, subject to a work permit being granted.

The 25-year-old United States international has signed a three-year deal with the Ibrox club for an undisclosed fee.

Beasley joined PSV for £1.5m in 2004 after more than four seasons with Major League Soccer outfit Chicago Fire.

"I'm ecstatic to be here," he told the Rangers website. "It's a massive club and I can't wait to get started."

The winger's transfer had been delayed due to the USA's participation in the Gold Cup.

"It took a while to get everything sorted as I was away with the national team and I had to wait until I was done playing before I could get everything done," Beasley said.

"I'm just glad now that everything's done and I can just concentrate on being a Rangers player.

"I've got a couple of good friends who played at Rangers, Michael Ball and Claudio Reyna, and they had good things to say about the football club.

"Claudio said that being at Rangers is like being part of a massive family, everyone is nice, everything is first class."

Manager Walter Smith is looking forward to seeing Beasley in full flight at Ibrox

"Last season I felt we were a little bit short of pace in our team and he is very quick," Smith said.

"He has experienced European football at PSV and had a spell on loan at Manchester City last season so he has also experienced British football and enjoyed that.

"He has almost 70 caps for the United States at the present moment so he is an experienced international player as well."

Rangers also signed Kilmarnock goalkeeper Graeme Smith on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Rangers striker Jean-Claude Darcheville jetted into Glasgow and vowed to be a success in British football second time around.

The 31-year-old had a disappointing spell with Nottingham Forest before a successful time with Bordeaux.

"I am sure I can adapt to the SPL quickly," he said. "I have matured a lot since I was at Nottingham Forest.

"Now I have much more experience in the game and I think I will be able to fit in well."

Darcheville, who was out of contract with Bordeaux, was speaking ahead of Rangers' pre-season training on Wednesday.

He was joined there by fellow new signings Alan Gow, the forward previously of Falkirk, and Kirk Broadfoot, the defender formerly of St Mirren.

But manager Smith is also chasing Bordeaux winger Julien Faubert, Wigan forward Lee McCulloch and Kilmarnock striker Steven Naismith.

"We have bids out for a number of players but whether we get them or not is a different matter," said Smith.

"We will just have to wait and see. It's not always in our hands.

"We want to strengthen a number of areas of the team and that's why we are going for the number of players we are going for at the moment.

"We had a very small squad of players last season and we need to strengthen the squad of players, which means trying to fill most positions."
