Buzsaky ruled out for the season

Akos Buzsaky

QPR midfielder Akos Buzsaky has been ruled out for the rest of the season after a scan revealed an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Hungarian, 26, sustained the injury during the club's 1-0 Carling Cup defeat at Manchester United on Tuesday and will be out for six to nine months.

"It's a massive blow for us," said caretaker manager Gareth Ainsworth.

"Akos is a unique talent and he was just starting to hit peak form again following his spell on the sidelines."

Playmaker Buzsaky, who was in superb form last season for the R's, returned to action in early September following an ankle injury.

"I'm devastated we've lost him, but all we can do is offer him support and wish him all the best with his recovery," added Ainsworth.

The Hungarian limped off at Old Trafford in the 33rd minute and, after his scan on Wednesday, the club's head physiotherapist Paul Hunter confirmed the extent of the injury.

"His studs got caught in the turf and his right knee twisted and, regrettably, he now faces a long period out," he said.

"We've seen the surgeon and he'll be going for surgery in the coming days."

Buzsaky initially joined Rangers on loan from Plymouth but his move was made permanent earlier this year.

Meanwhile, QPR are hoping to complete the signing of Icelandic striker Heidar Helguson on loan from Bolton.
