Pompey need time to shine - Adams

Portsmouth manager Tony Adams has said he fears that he may not be given the time to be successful at Fratton Park.

The former England captain stepped into the Pompey hotseat last week following the departure of Harry Redknapp to Tottenham Hotspur.

Adams told BBC Radio Solent: "We're very driven by results and we're living in the society of now.

"I think that given time here I can be successful, so that is a fear that I'm not going to be given a lot of time."

Adams takes Pompey to Sunderland on Saturday looking for his first win in charge after defeats by Liverpool and Wigan.

"At the moment everyone is very supportive. I'm very confident and very positive. It's great, I've got no fears."

Adams has held discussions with some old acquaintances as he looks to appoint his backroom staff.

He held talks with former Arsenal and England team-mate Martin Keown on Monday.

Adams also denied there had been any contact with former Gunners striker Dennis Bergkamp, who is now on the coaching staff at Ajax.
