Portsmouth warn off Cole bidders

Andy Cole Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp says he will resist any attempts to lure Andy Cole away from Fratton Park.

The striker, 35, combined with Kanu to fire Pompey into the fourth round of the FA Cup at the expense of Wigan.

Redknapp said: "I had calls this week from two Premiership clubs who want Andy, but I don't want to let him go.

"He is happy here as long as he's playing and he has 18 months left on his contract. And if he keeps playing like that he will stay in the team."

He added: "Jimmy Greaves was a genius, I haven't seen anyone much better, but Andy Cole is up with the best finishers. He has the medals to prove it."

Kanu has been a revelation since joining on a free transfer from West Brom in the summer, scoring 10 goals.

"I need to know whether they appreciate what I have done or not"

His contract expires in the summer and Redknapp is keen to extend it.

"He has been fantastic. We will talk about another year for sure," said the Pompey boss.

Kanu was recently quoted saying he would be keen to move to Ajax and he has still not ruled out leaving Fratton Park.

"Soon we will have to sit down and talk because I have only a few months on my contract left and can't be settled with that," he said.

"I have shown my commitment to the club and that I am playing for the team.

"I need to know whether they appreciate what I have done or not. That's football and if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen and I may go abroad again.

"But I don't want these great supporters to think I want this and want that."
