Sturrock struggles to find keeper

Luke McCormick Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock has said he is struggling to find a replacement goalkeeper for Saturday's match at Championship leaders Bristol City.

The club's only fit senior keeper, Luke McCormick, was sent off at Scunthorpe on Tuesday and is now suspended.

"There's a lot of goalies out there who are injured and certain clubs just can't afford to let their goalies go," he told BBC Radio Devon.

"It might take us right up to the witching hour before we get some one."

Sturrock's only option at the moment is 17-year-old youth-team keeper Lloyd Saxton, but the manager says he does not want to play him in such an important match.

"At the end of the day it'd be the last straw," he said.

"I like the lad, he's done very well in the games I've watched, but the important thing for me is that not to stagnate his career by putting him under severe pressure like that."

Sturrock would not be drawn on who he was looking to bring in, but said he had a list of four or five players who he would like to come into the side for the one match.

"We've got a tick list and we've been going down that tick list but we've been unsuccessful over they last couple of days."

Argyle's other senior goalkeeper, Romain Larrieu, is out after having an operation on a growth on his stomach.

The side has not had a reserve keeper on the bench in the past few matches, with Lee Hodges having to go in goal in place of McCormick on Tuesday night.
