Brave Plymouth suffer Real defeat

Barry Hayles and Guti in action Plymouth Argyle pushed European giants Real Madrid hard before falling to a 1-0 defeat in their pre-season friendly in Austria on Friday.

Real put out a strong side for coach Fabio Capello's first match in charge with Jonathan Woodgate, Ivan Helguera, Antonio Cassano and Guti all playing.

The sides were separated by Julio Baptista's 75th minute penalty after Luc Nalis handled in the area.

Argyle created few chances, but their commitment stopped Madrid's fluency.

Javier Portillo missed two good chances in the first half for Madrid, while substitute Soldado went close several times late on.
