Martin impressed by Posh signings

Peterborough United captain Russell Martin believes the Championship side have bought well so far this summer.

Tommy Rowe, Toumani Diagouraga and Lee Frecklington have all made the move to London Road over the past few weeks.

"The signings we've made will be good additions to the squad." right-back Martin told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"When the boss [Darren Ferguson] signs players he takes his time and looks at their personality as well as their ability, which is really important."

Posh remain in the market for a centre-back and a forward and hope to unveil a Premier League defender on a season-long loan later this week.

The club have missed out on players including Grimsby's Ryan Bennett, Freddie Sears of West Ham and Stockport striker Oli Johnson.

However Martin feels they have made decent progress, and expects further additions over the coming weeks.

"It's been pretty slow all round in the transfer market this year, probably given the economic situation globally," he said.

"But I think it will pick up in the next couple of weeks, especially once pre-season is really underway."

Most of the transfer speculation surrounding Posh this summer has involved manager Ferguson.

He was refused permission to speak to Reading last month, and most recently has been linked with the managerial vacancy at West Brom.

But Martin is confident that Ferguson is fully committed to Peterborough United.

"I think he'll stay, he's got unfinished business here and he wants to prove that this team can go a long way," he said.
