Mclean hands in transfer request

Aaron Mclean

Peterborough United striker Aaron Mclean has put in a transfer request following interest in him from Championship side Wolverhampton.

Mclean, 25, has been valued at £3m by Posh who would insist on further add-ons if he was sold.

Director of football Barry Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "He's clearly set his mind on going to Wolves.

"Unless there's £3m on the table he won't be going to Wolves unless they still want him in three years."

Mclean won the League Two golden boot last season with 29 league goals and is contracted at London Road until 2011.

"I just think something has gone to his head and he's got carried away by the fairies after one good season"

Fry added: "I think it's a bad decision from the player himself.

"I've got the greatest respect for him and he's done brilliantly for this club in a short period of time, both on and off the field.

"I just think something has gone to his head and he's got carried away by the fairies after one good season."

Fry insisted Mclean would see out his current deal until 2011 if they do not receive a bid matching their valuation.

"If it means that Aaron Mclean has to fulfil his contract with the remaining three years on it and he then walks out on a free transfer, the chairman is quite prepared for that," said Fry.

"The chairman Darragh MacAnthony could not have done any more than he has done.

"The offer I put to Aaron Mclean's agent yesterday was the biggest in the club's history by a million miles.

"But for whatever reason Aaron has changed his mind so hopefully Wolves back him and come in with the money instead of thinking they can get him on the cheap.

"If anyone thinks they're going to get him on the cheap, they're in for a rude awakening."
