Posh threatening to sue striker

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has revealed that the club will sue recent signing Craig Mackail-Smith if he does not attend training on Monday.

The striker, 22, joined Posh from Dagenham & Redbridge for a reported fee of £125,000 on 29 January, and signed a four-and-a-half-year contract.

However, he has failed to turn up for training this week.

"I can only hope and pray that common sense prevails and he turns up on Monday," Fry told the club website.

The Posh chief insists that the Football Association and Football League have accepted Mackail-Smith's contract as valid.

"I expected Craig to report with the team for the rearranged League fixture with Swindon (on Tuesday). He did not turn up and will be fined for not turning up," Fry explained.

"We arranged for Craig to come in on Thursday, but again he did not turn up and will be fined again.

"We have informed Craig's solicitors that if he does not attend training on Monday, we will fine him a a maximum of two weeks' wages.

"We have been informed we cannot sue the lawyer because he is acting on advice from his client, but we can begin legal proceedings against the agent Robert Codner for procurement of breach of contract, and also sue the player for breach of contract and damages."
