Notts County sign Bradford's Lee

Graeme Lee

Notts County have signed centre-back Graeme Lee on a free transfer from fellow League Two side Bradford City.

The 31-year-old had a year remaining on his contract, but was made available as part of a cost-cutting exercise.

Lee said: "I'm excited and looking forward to it. With the takeover they are a very ambitious club."

Notts boss Ian McParland said: "Graeme is a leader, a vastly experienced defender at this level. We're delighted he has agreed to join us."

Lee began his career at Hartlepool where he played almost 300 games, before being transferred to Sheffield Wednesday in June 2003.

"I can see him becoming a very reliable and popular figure in the centre of our defence"

Two years later he joined Doncaster for £50,000. He was made Rovers' captain and scored the winning goal in the 2007 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final victory over Bristol Rovers.

Lee signed a two-year deal with Bradford in the summer of 2008, and made his debut against Notts on the opening day of last season.

McParland added: "I can see him becoming a very reliable and popular figure in the centre of our defence."

The arrival of Lee means four new players will report for pre-season training on Wednesday, and it is believed McParland is on the brink of boosting that tally to five.
