McVeigh strike seals Norwich win

Paul McVeigh

Norwich City started their pre-season tour with a win over Scottish League Division Two champions Raith Rovers.

Former Canary, Paul McVeigh, who is hoping to secure a contract with the club, scored the only goal of the game.

Serbian striker Goran Maric started the game and other trialists Chris Craig and Michael Bridges also featured.

Norwich boss Bryan Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I was happy with the fitness levels and the result so there were lots of positives from the match."

Paul McVeigh has featured in all of Norwich City's pre-season matches so far and is hoping to impress the manager and get himself a contract.

He left Carrow Road two years ago to join Luton Town but is a free agent after he was released following the Hatters relegation to the Conference.

After the win over Raith Rovers, Bryan Gunn said McVeigh was doing all the right things during his trial.

"He'll make things happen in the penalty area and he wrong footed the defender and the goalkeeper to score the goal," Gunn said.

Norwich have been joined on tour by another player on a trial basis, Danish central defender Jens Berthel Askou.

The Canaries play St Johnstone on Thursday and their final tour match is against Airdrie United on Saturday.

They will then face a Manchester United XI at Carrow Road on Saturday, 25 July.

Further friendlies will take place at Crystal Palace and at home to Wigan, before the League One fixtures start on Saturday, 8 August.
