Pattison aims for World Cup spot

Matty Pattison

Matty Pattison hopes his recent form for Norwich City can win him a place in South Africa's World Cup squad.

The 21-year-old midfielder told BBC Radio Norfolk of his pride at being called up last summer.

"I got a taste for it last summer and they are good people, there's nothing better than playing for your country.

"It's got to be in the back of you mind, particularly as it [the World Cup] is in South Africa, it's a massive thing for me football-wise," he said.

Pattison has been widely heralded as the team's most consistent performer this season, and says his only regret is not finding the net just yet.

"I was a bit annoyed with myself after that miss on Saturday [at Plymouth] but I'm getting in the positions so it's going to come soon.

"Lee [Clarke] and the gaffer are always saying when I get in them opportunities look to shoot because I've got a powerful shot, If I get in those positions I'll keep shooting," he said.

Pattison was Glenn Roeder's first permanent signing for Norwich in January 2008 following a successful 10 game period on loan from Newcastle.
