McGhee appealing for Virgo talks

Mark McGhee directs his side at Fir Park for the first time Motherwell manager Mark McGhee has appealed to Adam Virgo to get in touch so the Celtic defender's loan move to Fir Park can be completed.

Celtic's manager has agreed in principle to the deal.

"I've got permission from Gordon Strachan to speak to Adam, but I haven't done that yet," said McGhee.

"It's possibly the case that I'm calling the wrong number and he's sitting at home wondering why I haven't phoned him."

McGhee sold the 24-year-old to Celtic two years ago when he was Brighton manager.

"Either he has changed his number or he doesn't want to come to Motherwell," he said.

"At Brighton, Adam was our best player week-in, week-out"

"So, if you read this Adam, I am trying to get in touch with you."

McGhee beleives that Virgo can rejuvenate his career by moving to Fir Park.

"I went to see him the other night and he played well," said the Well manager.

"I hope he feels if there's anybody who can help him get back to what he could be then it's me.

"There's no-one with more faith in the lad than me and he's got an opportunity here to recover from a disappointing couple of years.

"At Brighton, he was our best player week-in, week-out.

"He's only a young lad and played right-back, centre-half, centre-forward and was the best player every week. The lad has a lot going for him."

McGhee hopes to bring in three new players before the end of the transfer window, including a goalkeeper to compensate for Colin Meldrum's move into coaching.

The manager's home debut ended in a 1-1 draw with League One side Millwall.

Ross McCormack opened the scoring for the home side on the stroke of half-time, but Dave Brammer equalised late in the second half.
