Striker Newby is Morton new boy
Morton boss Davie Irons has moved to sign twenty-nine-year-old former Morecambe striker Jon Newby.
Newby, Morecambe's top scorer last season, was released by the Lancashire club in May.
Irons is pleased to have captured Newby, a player he scouted last season, who counts Bury, Huddersfield and Wrexham among his former clubs.
"We had him up for talks on Friday and just had to iron out a couple of things before we could sign him," said Irons.
"He's definitely got something. He's pacey and gets in behind defenders.
"He's not a hold-up player, but he's certainly quick," he added.
