Berbatov display thrills Ferguson

Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Dimitar Berbatov after the striker scored two goals in the 3-0 Champions League win over Celtic.

"It was fantastic, a marvellous performance from Dimitar again," said Ferguson. "He's bringing that composure to the final third of the field.

"Hopefully Dimitar's combination is developing with not only Wayne Rooney but also Carlos Tevez."

In-form Rooney was also on target in United's 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Berbatov failed to find the net in his first four games for United but has now scored five in the last four games, with four of those goals coming in two Champions League matches.

"Dimitar showed some fantastic pieces of football. I also think the other players are beginning to understand what type of player he is," added Ferguson.

"You always feel he can produce a pass that means something and his weight of pass on three or four occasions was superb. He has got five goals for us already and that is a terrific contribution.

"I was really pleased with our performance. It was a really bad night for Celtic to get us and a good night for us."

Ferguson was also pleased with another goal from Rooney to continue his recent hot streak that has resulted in him scoring nine times in seven games for club and country.

"Hopefully the spurt he is on lasts for a few more games," stated Ferguson.

"He has got a natural energy and sometimes he uses it in the wrong way, expending it all over the pitch, but that is part of his enjoyment."
