Story of Munich air disaster
In 1958, Manchester United were again taking part in the European Cup, having become the first English club to play in the competition the previous year.
Air travel was the only option because of the distances involved, but United still nearly missed their match against Everton in December 1957 because of delays on their return from Prague.
It led to a decision being taken to charter a plane for United's 5 February 1958 match against Red Star Belgrade in Yugoslavia.
United's players are seen here boarding the outward-bound flight. Disaster would strike on their journey home.
