Chase hots up for Van Nistelrooy

Ruud van Nistelrooy Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed three clubs want to sign Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are keen on the 30-year-old, but now another unnamed side has joined the chase.

"Real Madrid have shown interest and Bayern Munich have shown interest," said Ferguson, who is with his squad on a pre-season trip to South Africa.

"I think another club have shown interest today but David Gill is going to fill me in on that one."

Van Nistelrooy's decision to hand in a transfer request was widely anticipated following his fall-out with Ferguson at the end of last season.

"Ruud has asked to leave and we have to consider that," said the manager. "Obviously I think something may happen."

Real Madrid appear to be leading the chase for Van Nistelrooy, one of only eight players in United's history to score 150 times.

The Dutch striker is reported to have agreed terms with the Spanish giants but Real's offer of £10m is thought to be well short of United's asking price.

Following a turbulent end to his club season with United, Van Nistelrooy headed to the World Cup with Holland but ended the tournament as an unused substitute in his country's second-round defeat to Portugal.

However, Real's new manager Fabio Capello is optimistic Van Nistelrooy will be a success in Spain.

"Van Nistelrooy has done well at all the clubs he has played for," he told Spanish television station Antena 3.

"He has scored a lot of goals and he is a striker who can succeed at Madrid."

Van Nistelrooy was a £19m signing from PSV Eindhoven in 2001 and has scored 150 goals in 218 appearances.

The Dutchman's impending departure is set to trigger United into one or two moves of their own.

Ferguson claims they are close to tying up a deal for West Brom keeper Tomasz Kuszczak, which would allow Ben Foster to rejoin Watford on loan for the coming campaign.

Although West Brom say a deal for Kuszczak is not close, Ferguson said: "We have an agreement with Watford for Ben to go back there for another full season.

"We are in the process of tying up a deal with Tomasz Kuszczak from West Brom.

"He has Premiership experience and he will be the number two to Edwin van der Sar next season."

United have also been tipped to make a renewed attempt to sign Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick from Spurs after having a £10m rejected during the World Cup.
