Dudek frustrated by reserve spell

Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek has blamed his lack of regular first-team action after conceding nine goals in two games on his return to the side.

Dudek, 33, replaced first-choice keeper Jose Reina for the FA Cup and Carling Cup defeats at the hands of Arsenal.

"If you play one game every two months, it is really, really difficult to show your quality," said Dudek.

"As a goalkeeper, you can use experience but you can't build confidence in training."

The 33-year-old's last game in the first team before the FA Cup defeat had been a 1-0 win over Arsenal in February 2006.

"After seven months, or even more than that, you have to play another game against a good side," added Dudek, who is likely to return to the bench for Saturday's Premiership game against Watford.

Liverpool followed up their 3-1 defeat in the FA Cup with a humiliating 6-3 loss at home in the Carling Cup, the first time the Reds had let in six goals at home in 77 years.

And Reds boss Rafael Benitez came under heavy criticism for his selection policy for the Carling Cup match.

Benitez decided to play several inexperienced players, as well as players such as Robbie Fowler and Dudek who are not first-team regulars.

Dudek is out of contract at the end of the season, and he admitted he had resigned himself to leaving the club.

Joining from Feyenoord in 2001, Dudek won the League Cup in 2003 and famously played a major part in Liverpool's Champions League win over AC Milan in 2005.
