Imps success brings unusual bonus

Peter Jackson

Lincoln City's climb away from the foot of League Two has brought an unusual reward - new flooring in the manager's office at Sincil Bank.

Manager Peter Jackson asked for the office to be redecorated when he joined the club last year.

Chairman Steff Wright suggested an incentive scheme, providing carpet tiles for every point the Imps won.

City's victory over Hereford on Monday took them to 49 points, enough for the job to be completed.

"Over the past couple of months the colour of the floor has changed from worn-out green to bright blue tiles"
Chairman Steff Wright

The plan came about with the Imps bottom of League Two.

Wright told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "The chief executive, Dave Roberts, came up with a tiles-for-points scheme. For every point Peter got two tiles.

"That meant that by the time we reached safety, around the 50 point mark, he would get the office fully tiled."

The scheme has also provided a visual guide to City's success under Jackson.

"We've gradually been putting the tiles down", said Wright, "and over the past couple months the colour of the floor has changed from worn-out green to bright blue tiles."

Jackson is currently on leave from the club as he undergoes cancer treatment, but Wright added: "He'll be very pleased to find his office fully carpeted, ready for his return."
