Sugar wanted to see Leeds demoted

Sir Alan Sugar

Leeds United should have been thrown out of the Football League for going into administration, according to former Spurs chairman Sir Alan Sugar.

Sugar wants stronger punishments for teams like Leeds for going bust.

Sugar told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Leeds spent millions and millions of pounds, go bust and the following Saturday start again, it's unfair.

"They should be thrown out, down to the fifth division and have to work their way back up, playing on Hackney Marsh."

Leeds were hit with a 15-point deduction last season for failing to exit administration correctly by gaining a Company Voluntary Arrangement.

That punishment was on top of an original 10-point penalty imposed on the club when they first entered administration during the 2006/07 season, which contributed to their relegation to League One.

Sugar added: "It takes your heart out of the game when you see this happen, it is totally unfair."

Leeds United have told BBC Radio Leeds that they are currently considering whether or not to responded to Sugar's comments.
