Jefferies picks up monthly award

Kilmarnock's Jim Jefferies is the Clydesdale Bank Premier League manager of the month for August.

The Rugby Park side have made a great start to the season, winning three and drawing one in the league.

Killie also made progress in the Co-op Cup with a win at Brechin and are yet to concede a goal in any competition.

"It's an individual award but if you win it, you know it's because everyone is pulling in the same direction," said a delighted Jefferies.

"It's manager of the year you want to be in contention for, not for selfish reasons, but because to be in contention you must have a good season.

"So that's what the target is, to have a good season and try to get in that top half.

"We are on a good run and we have a chance to keep it going as long as possible and see how they react when things go against us."

Killie go into Saturday's SPL clash at Rangers level on points with their opponents at the top of the table.

"When you go to Ibrox after a couple of bad results and performances, you fear the worst but now everyone is buzzing," added Jefferies.

"Rangers will be expected to win but we can go and show them that we are justifiably at the top of the league. Our aim is to go there and cause a shock."
