Dowie turns down job as Hull boss

Dowie had been the front-runner to take on the job, but turned down the chance to make a swift return to football after being sacked by Charlton.

Hull chairman Adam Pearson told the BBC the interview process is now finished, despite Dowie's decision.

But he refused to confirm growing speculation that former West Brom boss Gary Megson is now in pole position.

Dowie was in charge at The Valley for only 12 Premiership games and he left Charlton on 13 November, with the club bottom of the Premiership table.

Hull are in similar trouble in the Championship, lying in 23rd place after Saturday's defeat by Plymouth.

Dowie's biggest achievement in management so far is winning promotion to the top flight in 2004 with Crystal Palace after taking charge at Selhurst Park in December 2003 when the Eagles were fighting relegation.
