Terriers sign Watford's Robinson

Theo Robinson

Huddersfield Town have signed Watford striker Theo Robinson for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old scored seven times in 22 games on loan at Southend United last season, and has signed a three-year deal with Town.

"I want to play regularly and I believe that the club can progress to the Championship, which I want to be a part of," Robinson told the club's website.

The Watford trainee has spent time on loan at Wealdstone and Hereford.

Robinson added: "Having players like Lionel [Ainsworth] and Peter Clarke around has influenced my decision to come here very strongly because I have played with them and know the quality they possess.

"Having seen some of the other Huddersfield players in the game against Southend last season I know we have a great squad here and I think these new additions mean we have a real chance to push into the league above."

The West Yorkshire club are understood to have beaten off competition from several Championship and League One clubs to secure their fifth summer signing.

Town manager Lee Clark said: "We lost Danny Cadamarteri over the summer and we needed another explosive striker, which is exactly the type of player that Theo is, but he also has a good goal-scoring record to go with it.

"I am very happy with the three new strikers we now have at the club ready for the new season - Theo, Robbie Simpson and Lee Novak. They complement each other very well."
