Huddersfield seal Butler switch

Huddersfield Town have signed Scunthorpe United defender Andy Butler on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old centre-back, who turned down the offer of a new contract at Glanford Park, has signed a three-year deal with the League One club.

Butler told Huddersfield's website: "I've known about the possibility of coming here for a while but it's good to have it all sorted.

"Huddersfield is a massive club with a lot going for it at the moment."

Butler, who is Town's third summer signing, will join his former Scunthorpe team-mate midfielder Jim Goodwin when Town return for pre-season training on Friday.

After joining Scunthorpe as a trainee Butler has spent his entire career at Glanford Park.

"Scunthorpe has been the only club I've known so this fresh start is really exciting for me.

"It's a real buzz to be here and hopefully I can do the business, I'd never come across the manager [Stan Ternent] before but I really liked what he had to say.

"Everything seems to be coming together here at the moment, we seemed destined for promotion but now it's up to us to do it."

Huddersfield will look to Butler's experience as they seek promotion in their centenary season.

"I've enjoyed two promotions in my career, one from League One and another from League Two, but I won't be able to tell the lads here much, I'm sure they all know what it's all about.

"Last season was tough for Scunthorpe but it was a brilliant experience for me to be playing at Championship level and I want to get back there, this club is ready-made for the Championship."
