Job fears prompt Laszlo silence

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo claimed his job would be at risk if he revealed whether or not he would be able to buy a striker in the next transfer window.

After the 0-0 draw with Hibernian Laszlo lamented his side's lack of a predatory goal-scorer.

But when asked if he would get the money in January he said: "If I give you an answer about this situation, I will not be the coach here tomorrow.

"I can only say again, if you don't score goals, you don't ever win games."

Laszlo had already indicated that he would consider his long-term future at Hearts based on how much backing he was given to take the club forward in January by the club's board.

At the end of October the Hearts boss said he was happy at Tynecastle and revealed he met owner Vladimir Romanov whom he said was 'realistic' in discussions about plans for the transfer window.

But, with his team still in eighth place in the Scottish Premier League after Saturday's match at Tynecastle, Laszlo's frustration over his lack of strike power was evident.

"We try our best but, if in the front you don't have the quality to score, you don't score," he told BBC Scotland.

"I've said before, a clean sheet is not enough. You need people up front with a killer instinct. Last season was the same.

"Nothing against Christian Nade, Jamie Mole or Gary Glen - they did everything today.

"But if you look at our season our strikers don't score too often.

What do you make of Laszlo's comments?

"Suso is a dangerous player but he is injured after surgery and we need people in the team who are more direct towards goal.

"With all respect to Hibs, they are better in the table but they are not better than my team.

"The difference is they have up front two or three good strikers."

Laszlo arrived at Hearts in July 2008 and guided the Edinburgh club to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premier League in his first season in charge.
